Serving the Community One Day at a Time

Day of Service with Operation Paintbrush.
Back in September a group of 16 upper managers, including the County Manager, participated in an all-day community service project. With the help of Operation Paintbrush and Community Revitalization, Loretta Brown’s home was given a well-deserved facelift. Operation Paintbrush uses volunteers to paint homes of Henrico citizens who need it most, at no cost to the homeowner. This usually includes senior citizens, low income households or citizens who just don’t have the resources to maintain their home.

Starting the day bright and early, volunteers spent their time cleaning gutters, painting siding, doing yardwork and plenty of other jobs around Ms. Brown’s house to get it back looking its best. “I remember pulling up to the house that morning and seeing John Vithoulkas already walking on the roof, working on the gutters,” said Director of Human Resources, Paula Reid. Not only did the volunteers get to spend the day away from the office helping a citizen of our County, but it gave them the opportunity to interact with each other in a completely different environment than normal. It did not take much convincing to get upper managers to dedicate a day to community service.

The Henrico community is who we serve as a local government entity. Community service is another way for us to give back to our community. Operation Paintbrush is just one program you can volunteer with in Henrico. You can also find a list of volunteer opportunities available on our website.
