Step Into Spring

As we enter April, hopefully the cold and snow is behind us and we can look towards warmer weather, flowers and Spring adventures. Whether you are at work or out on the weekend with friends and family, Henrico and the surrounding metro area offers so many fun and exciting outdoor adventures, we just had to share! Below are highlighted just five ways to step into Spring:

  1. View of Lake Hening from one of the walking trails.
Did you know Henrico’s Western Government Center has two walking trails, that combined, are about two miles long? Stretch your legs, get some fresh air or even have “walking meetings” outside and take advantage of Spring. You can find print outs of these two trails on the Employee Portal, so print them out and share them around the office. Maybe you will see a friendly face or two out on the trails!
  2. Henrico Recreation and Parks publishes a Program Guide for each season. Highlighting some events for Spring, there is something available for every age. Kids can learn ‘All About Plants’ on April 3rd at Short Pump Park. Through fun crafts and outdoor activities, they will learn how to identify garden plants. Teens can have a history lesson on ‘Animal Careers Through Time,’ on April 3rd at Meadow Farm. For ages 18 and up, participate in a Twilight Canoe Paddle April 28th at Deep Bottom Park. These are just some of the programs offered through Henrico that are perfect for warmer weather kicking the winter blues.
  3. Henrico Nights are back at Richmond Raceway! The County provides wonderful opportunities for employees and their families to attend Richmond sporting events at discounted prices. In April you can go to Richmond Raceway to see the NASCAR Cup Series/Xfinity Series Races with a special $10.00 off grandstand tickets. In May there will be a Henrico County Employee Night at the Diamond to see the Richmond Flying Squirrels! Tickets are just $5.50! You can find both of these offers here:
    1. NASCAR Cup Series/Xfinity Series Races
    2. Richmond Flying Squirrels
  4. Spring and Summer are all about festivals and Virginia has no shortage of them. April kicks off with the highly popular Richmond International Film and Music Festival April 23 through April 29 at various locations around the Richmond area. May brings around the 47th Annual Arts in the Park craft show. This is a pet friendly, free, outdoor event that happens at the Carillon in Byrd Park. These are just two of the many festivals around the area. For more events happening in Henrico check out 'Visit Henrico'.
  5. In our own backyard is Innsbrook After Hours, an outdoor concert series that kicks off in May and runs through the summer. Bringing national touring artists to the Henrico area, live music is the perfect way to wind down after, or even in the middle of, a busy week. Check out all of the acts coming to this summer’s series.
